![]() The Society brings together scientists and technologists working on the equipment and applications of power beams. Power Beam Society of India was founded in 2003 to promote, to advance the awareness and to spread the highly specialised Electron, Laser and Plasma Beam Technologies across India. It is a multi-disciplinary research centre with extensive infrastructure for advanced research and development covering the entire spectrum of nuclear science, chemical engineering, material sciences and metallurgy, electronic instrumentation, biology and medicine, supercomputing, high-energy physics and plasma physics and associated research for Indian nuclear programme and related areas. The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) is India's premier nuclear research facility, headquartered in Trombay , Mumbai. The department is also benefitted under the DST-PURSE program offered to the science departments of this university.The faculty members of the department carry out research in many frontier areas, which includes experimental, theoretical and computational physics. In addition to this, the department is supported by FIST and SAP programs. The government of Tamilnadu has identified this department as the “Centre of Excellence” for PG and research programs. The Department of Physics in Bharathiar University traces its root as a postgraduate centre of University of Madras started in 1974 and became the Department of Physics of Bharathiar University in 1982. In 2021, the University secured a ranking in the range of 801-1000 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. ![]() The University stands at 14 th rank under the category of University and 22 nd among the top 100 institutions in the MoE’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking. Times Higher Education Young Universities World Ranking ranked BU in the range of 201 to 250. The NAAC has accredited the University with an ‘A’ Grade in the third cycle assessment. The University has 39 Departments, offering 54 post-graduate programs besides offering M.Phil. University Grants Commission (UGC) recognized Bharathiar University in 1985 for grants. The Bharathiar University was established at Coimbatore by the Government of Tamilnadu in February 1982 under the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act 1 of 1982). The one-day pre-conference workshop consists of invited lectures and tutorial on modelling and simulation of industrial plasmas such as thermal and non-thermal plasmas for research students and young faculty.
